About the management committee
In response to the MHLW approval of the use of industrially made stent grafts in Japan, a conference to investigate operation of "Practical Standards for Stent Grafting of Abdominal Aortic Aneurysms" was held on December 21, 2006, by representative members elected from the 10 academic associations, and compliance and enforcement of the Practice Standards were discussed. As a result, the "Japanese Committee for Stentgraft Management" (JACSM) consisting of 11 academic associations (as listed in Note 3) was established to manage the use of the stent graft of thoracic aortic aneurysms, which is expected to be introduced in the near future, and Prof. Hiroshi Shigematsu (Department of Vascular Surgery, Tokyo Medical University) was elected as Chairperson.
The JACSM prepared the evaluation procedures of the practice standards related to the facilities, practicing surgeons and supervising surgeons as well as the written formats necessary for the procedure in compliance with the "Practice Standards for Stent Grafting of Abdominal Aortic Aneurysms," and started the evaluation in June 2007.
Furthermore, the evaluation of the standards related to the institutions, practicing surgeons and supervising surgeons was also started in compliance with the newly established "Practice Standards for Stent Grafting of Thoracic Aortic Aneurysms" on March 26, 2008.
On July 24, 2009, the Japanese Society of Interventional Cardiology and the Japanese Association of Cardiovascular Catheterization Therapeutics were merged and newly established as the Japanese Association of Cardiovascular Intervention and Therapeutics, making the number of academic associations that constituted JACSM equal to 10.
On July 15, 2010, Director Shin Ishimaru of Japanese College of Angiology was elected as Chairperson by the re-election of executives.
